Arneis is is an Italian variety, native to the hills of Piedmont. It’s not a common variety, but Australia has the scond largest plantings outside of it’s Italian home. Fruit for this wine was off the Michelini Vineyard in the cool Alpine Valleys of north-east Victoria. Perhaps their Italian background, the elevation and the deft winemaking hands of Erin Pooley are what shines in this pristine white.
Handpicked fruit was pressed to tank, then chilled before transfer to old oak barrels for natural fermentation.
It spent the cold winter settling and stabilising before bottling in the spring.
A pale clear white, it shows delicate floral and apple aromas and a perfectly pitched palate offering pear skin and crunchy apple flavours with fine, chalkdust acidity. We love it.
Review from Gary Walsh of The Wine Front
“Nutty, saline, savoury style, with bright acidity, fine chalky texture, apple and lemon zest, and a dry pulpy grapefruity finish of good length. Complex and interesting, but not at the expensive of drinking appeal. 93 Points, OCT 22.
