Sparrow & Vine Barossa Valley Biodynamic Mataro 2023

$33.00

With Grenache crops super low in 2023 we decided to branch out into Mataro. Or Mourvedre (if you prefer the French version) or Monastrell (if you tend to Spanish). As it has been in this vineyard for over 100 years we’re happy with the easier to pronounce Mataro.
While more often used in a blends we think straight Mataro is unappreciated, and something you’ll enjoy as it has palate weight similar to our Grenache.
Fruit for this was from the regenerative vine tending of Suzi Hilder and Wayne Ahrens of Smallfry Wines in the Barossa Valley.
Old vines, certified biodynamic, hand picked, hand made, 8 months in old French oak and no additives bar a tickle of sulphur at bottling. Yes, you can call it natural wine.
It tastes like an antidote to Barossa Shiraz really, with dark plum and blackberry fruit but more savoury, briary and spicy too, offering black tea tannins to guide the blue/black fruits and bright, herbal acidity to close, making it super food friendly too.
Can take a chill but is open and generous without.
We think you’ll love it.
