Sparrow & Vine Barossa Grenache 2022

$33.00

The 2022 vintage was a little cooler with slower ripening leading to harvest being 12 days later than the previous couple of years. More time to develop flavour I reckon. The majority of the fruit this year is from the organic and biodynamically farmed Ahrens/Hilder old vineyard at Vine Vale with about 15% off the 60 year old Doecke vineyard in the Eden Valley.

As with other years the grapes were hand picked and hand sorted through the crusher/ destemmer with some bunches left whole to add some structure and complexity. The natural yeasts were then left to do their thing. It was pressed out to tanks to settle and then older french oak barrels for aging.
We’re really very happy with this vintage. Again, it is medium weight, bustling with red fruit and spice notes. The structure this year perhaps a little finer and more velvety but still offering the balance of bright, juicy red fruits with concentration, length and approachability.
Quite dangerously drinkable.
Review from Gary Walsh of The Wine Front
Poached strawberry, a little spice, a gentle sort of amaro perfume lends extra interest. It’s soft and squishy, a fine dusting of emery board tannin, again that orange peel and herb amaro twang, with a sort of musk stick and Turkish apricot sweetness, juicy and a little savoury, with some sap and fine grainy tannin pushing out the finish. Delicious. Such a great drink. 93 Points, OCT 22

2. SPARROW & VINE – BAROSSA VALLEY GRENACHE 2022
TASTING NOTES:
Lots of red berries, rose water, apricot, orange marmalade and spice with savoury scorched earch notes. Supple and round with finely grained tannins. Smartly made.

Review by Andrew Graham, Ozwinereview.
The Sparrow & Vine Barossa Grenache 2022 is a blend of Eden & Barossa Valley fruit that spent 5 months in old oak. It’s gloriously vibrant drinking too – so incredibly smashable. All blood orange and raspberry with a lofi unforced vibe, but the depth of serious fruit. A real unadorned red raspberry Grenache vibe, but with fine tannins and depth. So good and balanced and right.
Best drinking: good now. 18/20, 93/100. 13.8%, $33. Sparrow & Vine website. Would I buy it? Sure would.
