2021 was another very dry vintage so the super low yields from our usual source, the Doecke Eden Valley vineyard, were topped up with a Grenache from the organic and biodynamic farmed Ahrens vineyard at Vine Vale. Grapes were picked on March 6th, the same day as in 2020 and 2019.
As with other years the grapes were hand picked and hand sorted through the crusher/ destemmer with some bunches left whole to add some structure and complexity. The natural yeasts were then left to do their thing. It was pressed out to tanks to settle and then older french oak barrels for aging.
There are more Barossa than Eden Valley grapes in the mix this year but the telltale spice and raspberry notes of that Eden Valley fruit seem to shine again. Maybe some extra structure from the valley floor grapes but still the balance of bright, juicy red fruits with concentration, length and approachability other vintages have delivered.
Quite dangerously drinkable. We love it.
