Grenache, Mataro, shiraz, cinsault, marsanne, rousanne.
Made from fruit sourced from the Vine Vale subregion of the Barossa Valley. This traditional blend is well suited to our style of winemaking. 2011 vintage has elevated the spicy Sechuan pepper character of the Mataro portion of the blend to a prominent role. Grenache fruit jubes provide a sweet counter point. Shiraz and Carignan provide depth and Cinsalt has a lovely high aromatic note. This is the first vintage of this wine to include Marsanne and Rousanne which for me pop up about 2/3 of the way through the palate and say “look at me” in a sexy bedroom voice. From a winemaking perspective I am happy with the decision to let this wine rest a while in oak before bottling longer than our normal practice and believe the wine to be more balanced for it. In many ways I see this wine as representing the future for our label.
